Barton Brings Back Nearly $5 Million to Schools, Municipalities in 124th District
10/22/2024
HARRISBURG - Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) announced he helped secure nearly $5 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants and Public School Facility Improvement grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects throughout the 124th Legislative District.

“Our municipalities have so many projects in the works trying to make our area a better place to live,” Barton said. “Unfortunately, many of these projects are very expensive, and our townships and boroughs don’t always have enough cash on hand. That’s why I’m proud to have worked with Sen. Dave Argall and Rep. Tim Twardzik to bring this funding back to our area.”

School districts receiving Public School Facility Improvement grants are:

• Blue Mountain School District – $1,075,000 for upgrades to the high school.
• Kutztown Area School District – $475,000 to make HVAC upgrades at Kutztown Elementary and Kutztown Area Middle School.
• Schuylkill County Area Vocational Technical School – $476,805 for a roof replacement and internet connectivity project at the South Campus.
• Tamaqua Area School District – $450,000 to replace the roof at the high school building.

Municipalities receiving LSA funding are:

• Deer Lake Borough – $700,000 for Deer Lake Dam infrastructure repairs.
• Greater Berks Development Fund – $98,287 for renovations to the Strand Theater.
• Hamburg Borough – $70,127 to purchase and install an emergency generator at Union Fire Company.
• New Ringgold Borough – $100,000 to acquire property for a traffic widening project.
• Port Clinton Borough – $177,353 for the relocation of a sanitary sewer force main.
• Ryan Township – $69,639 for Ryan Township Fire Company to purchase a UTV.
• Tamaqua Borough – $79,444 to restore the façade on a historic building.
• Tilden Township – $276,849 to purchase a municipal truck.
• Upper Tulpehocken Township – $28,286 for a new roof for the municipal building.
• Upper Tulpehocken Township – $297,587 to purchase and install an inclusive playground.
• Upper Tulpehocken Township – $249,486 to purchase a vehicle equipped with traffic control devices and rescue tools.
• West Penn Township – $290,360 to purchase an asphalt paver.

Act 71 of 2004 provides for the distribution of LSA gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program awards funds to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.
