Barton Announces $3.7 Million Awarded to Water, Sewer Projects in 124th Legislative District

December 19, 2023

HARRISBURG - Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) announced the Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded more than $3.7 million in grant funding to water and sewer projects in the 124th Legislative District.

“Improving our infrastructure has been a high priority of mine even before I ran for office, and that’s why I fought so hard for this funding,” Barton said. “While most people won’t see these improvements being made, they’re incredibly important for the health and safety of our communities.”

Part of this funding comes from COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to H2O PA – Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Water Projects Program.

The projects in the 124th district receiving this funding include:

• Coaldale Lansford Summit Hill Sewer Authority - $2.5 million for wastewater treatment plant improvements and a mitigation project in Carbon and Schuylkill counties.
• Orwigsburg Borough - $600,000 for a sewer upgrade project.

The remainder of this funding comes from the COVID-19 ARPA funds to the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program.

The projects in the 124th district receiving this funding include:

• Lansford Coaldale Joint Water Authority - $300,000 for the replacement of approximately 1,600 water meters located in Lansford and Nesquehoning boroughs, Carbon County, and Coaldale Borough, Schuylkill County.
• Tamaqua Area Water Authority - $208,675 for the BET Property water service project.
• Kutztown Borough - $135,001 to replace the storm pipe and storm inlets along Main Street.
• New Ringgold Borough - $30,636 to complete necessary repairs and improvements at the wastewater treatment plant.

“Thanks to Sen. Dave Argall and his advocacy for the Schuylkill County projects,” Barton said. “The time and effort we’ve put in to bringing our districts’ taxpayer dollars back to the area is paying off!”
