HARRISBURG - Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) announced the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has awarded nearly $888,000 to organizations in the 124th Legislative District for recreation and conservation projects. The funding comes from DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
The organizations selected to receive this funding are as follows:
• Appalachian Trail Conservancy – $40,000 to prepare a trail study for the development of a trail crossing from PA State Game Lands 110 in Tilden Township to Port Clinton.
• Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association – $184,000 for upgrades to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and $92,900 for monitoring raptor migration with Kittatinny Hawk Watch.
• The Rodale Institute - $50,000 to install roughly 2.5 acres of multi-functional riparian forest buffer in the Lower Delaware River Watershed.
• Schuylkill River Greenway Association – $435,000 to further design and develop the Schuylkill River Trail in Berks and Schuylkill counties.
• West Penn Township – $86,000 for upgrades to J.E. Morgan Memorial Park.
“Berks and Schuylkill counties are home to some of the most beautiful parts of our Commonwealth,” Barton said. “This funding will help more people get out and enjoy the outdoors in the short term, while laying the groundwork to ensure our area stays beautiful for generations to come.”
