Barton, Argall, Gebhard Announce Nearly $379,000 in Natural Gas Impact Fees Awarded to Schuylkill, Berks Counties
June 25, 2025
HARRISBURG - Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124), Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48) announced Berks and Schuylkill counties will receive a combined sum of nearly $379,000 in impact fees from the natural gas industry.
Impact fees are levied in addition to regular business taxes paid by every corporation in Pennsylvania. The disbursements were established in 2012 to ensure communities affected by drilling receive their fair share of funding for projects such as road and bridge repairs, housing and other infrastructure needs.
“It’s hard to overstate how important the natural gas industry is to Pennsylvania,” Barton said. “We are blessed with huge amounts of an important energy source right below our feet. The businesses that extract it don’t just create tens of thousands of Pennsylvania jobs, but also invest money back into the communities through these impact fees. These funds are icing on the cake, because the real benefit lies in the ability to power our homes and businesses.”
“These funds will support road and bridge repairs, conservation projects, and housing initiatives in our communities – and that’s in addition to the thousands of family-sustaining jobs our natural gas industry sustains here in Pennsylvania,” said Argall.
“Impact Fee distributions are very beneficial because they fund important updates to our communities that enhance our lives – and none of the dollars come out of taxpayer pockets,” Gebhard said. “We’re able to improve parks, trails, creeks and more without further burdening taxpayers, which is always my goal.”
