Barton, Gebhard: Nearly $1.47 Million Awarded to Northern Berks County

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) and Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-48) announced today that nearly $1.47 million in state grants have been awarded for a variety of projects in northern Berks County.

“I’m grateful this funding is coming back to our community, especially because it will strengthen some of the infrastructure we rely on every day,” Barton said. “These investments will help make our communities safer, more efficient and easier to access.”

“These grants ensure our residents won’t bear the cost of these upgrades. It’s exciting to see so many crucial projects for public safety, emergency services, municipal services, and water systems move forward,” said Gebhard.

The following grants were awarded through the statewide Local Share Account program, which is funded through state gaming revenues:

• Hamburg Borough – $191,060 to make upgrades to its public works building.
• Hamburg Municipal Authority – $350,000 for a storage building upgrade for the water filtration plant in Windsor Township.
• Maxatawny Township Municipal Authority – $49,401 to purchase new equipment.
• Upper Bern Township – $500,000 for Shartlesville Community Fire Company No. 1 to purchase a new fire engine.
• Upper Tulpehocken Township – $161,200 to pave the municipal office parking lot.
• Upper Tulpehocken Township – $215,841 to repave a section of East Fort Road.

All grants were given final approval Tuesday at a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
